This project in Mill Hill came to us through a recommendation from clients whose dream home we had previously delivered. Anita and Ian had downsized and purchased this 3-bed semi-detached house, which they wanted to fully transform to suit their lifestyle. The architect we regularly collaborate with was also recommended to them, and together we worked on this project step by step.
The result is a beautifully finished home: a rear extension overlooking a beautiful garden, complete with a roof lantern that fills the open-plan kitchen and dining area with natural light. The entire house was upgraded—full re-plumbing, complete re-wiring, and all surfaces were re-boarded with enhanced sound insulation. In the end, we preserved the character of this 120-year-old property while adding a contemporary extension and creating a quiet, warm, comfortable, modern home inside.
Challenges & Solutions
This project came with its fair share of challenges and unexpected surprises. Starting with the foundation work, we were hit by the rainy season and groundwater rising into the trenches. We had to build a temporary shelter over the excavation and dig deeper trenches to achieve the required levels. The existing floor structures throughout the house were very old and out of level. We had to correct all of them, and in the dining room and new extension, we also installed a reinforced concrete slab with underfloor heating.
There were many smaller complexities along the way, but together with our team and the architect, we resolved everything promptly and delivered the project on schedule. Anita and Ian were extremely happy with the final result—and they now recommend everywhere
